EYES THROUGH TIME

A Look Back at The Builder at Auchinlea Pond, 1987 By Brian Anderson

This photo of the builder taken around 1987, shows Auchinlea Pond looking west. In the picture, you can see some familiar landmarks from the past it was one of my first street pictures of Glasgow.

On the left, you can spot the large M8 lighting posts, which are a key part of the motorway. Just behind them are the Cranhill flats, barely visible but still standing at the time. To the right of the photo, you can see the Bar L chimneys, which were once an important part of the area’s industrial history.

In the foreground, the bollards are still there today, which is interesting because it shows how some things have stayed the same over the years. However, the pylon in the picture is no longer there. It likely disappeared when the Fort shopping centre was built, which changed the area quite a bit.

This photo is a great reminder of how much the area has changed, but also how some things, like those bollards, have remained the same.
